Sheen,

I am a little behind reading so this is a late reply. But my experience with a salvage title was a nightmare. I got a '76 Porsche 911 pretty cheaply, I thought. It had a title so I thought everything was good. But it had a salvage/theft background and when I tried to sell it NO ONE would touch it. There are just too many good cars out there to take this one. And if you are willing to pay $12,000, I am sure you can do way better, salvage title or no.

I'm talking to a local guy about buying his 69' convert for a daily driver. It looks fairly clean, stock 350, auto, TA hood and spoiler, blue interior, primered white exterior. Says he has it in storage so it may need a little work to get it rolling. Asking price is $15k. Seems high to me. I was thinking around $12k tops and then he told me it has a salvage title and that he was told it was a theft recovery with engine and trans stolen, i.e. not matching #'s anymore. He's offered the VIN# so I assume everything is a go for registering it. Q: How much does a car's value drop when it has a salvage title?

Thanks,
Sheen
