I agree, there are a number of peroid correct changes one can make to improve
performance or safety without drastically afffecting the value or look if done
smartly -

IROC steering boxes, POSI's, better sways/shocks, Guldstrand Mod for suspension
pickup points, disc brakes, moderate cam upgrades, H1/H4 headlights powered off
of relays, hidden iPod systems, hidden ingition boxes, RARE long branch
manifolds, - these are all "resto-mods" that one could make that definitely
improve performance and safety etc...while keeping the car looking period
correct. As much as I would love to believe that our cars have skyrockted in
value os others, they haven;t and that's fine with me - I can drive it all over
the place, not be paranoid about it and enjoy it to the fullest - even when
running a quick errand.

Obviosly everyone has their own preference for whats is right for mods and what
isn't, but I personally prefer keeping everything as correct as possible and
having a paper trail, but the correct finish and markings on the nuts and bolts
that hold the driveshaft in place is not something I'm worried about.

Cheerio and Happy New Year,

Eric Heinrich
