First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... I can tell you that the front and rear bumpers I bought from Goodmark for my '68 fit like a glove. I mean *perfect* fit. Direct bolt on with no adjustments whatsoever. I paid about what it would have cost to straighten and rechrome my old ones.

First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... I have all the chrome pieces from my 67 off the car and waiting for the body to be painted. I haven't taken them anywhere for estimates yet, but was wondering if anyone has compiled a list of stuff that fits good aftermarket, and stuff that is better off re-chromed. I believe I've read somewhere that bumpers and convertible windshield header moldings are thin and don't fit well, but what about other stuff like the vent window handles, door handles, side mirror, rear-view mirror, etc. I'm not kidding when I say everything shiny needs to be replaced or refinished. One ray of hope is all the stainless is polishing up nice. Also, what is a reasonable to expect to pay for bumpers that need a little straightening and so forth? I think many people simply accumulate parts when they start a project. I know I have. By the time the part is trial fitted, so much time has past that it's too late to complain and too late to return it for credit. The couple of items I have returned, I get the "you are the first one to complain and we've sold this piece for years". It's probably part of the training. I bet there's a long list of people who received springs that set the car at the wrong ride height because "one size fit's all". I bought a rear quarter patch panel for my 68. I bought the heavier one instead of the Goodmark piece. I bought the right side two years ago and it was usable. The left side I got last month completely lacked the embossed detail around the wheel opening. The reversed 1/4 circle that frames the wheel opening was totally missing. That means that where you butt this reproduction patch against original work, you would have the embossed detail vanish at your joint. For $55, I wasn't going to eat this loss so I contacted the vendor. "I see what you're saying, but you're the only person to complain" is the answer the vendor gave me. He looked at others and "they are all like that". It cost me $30 to ship this part round trip. I bought the Goodmark part which though thinner was correct for this detail. We all need to examine parts when they arrive. That is when you have the right to reject it. If they are not satisfactory, they need to be returned for refund, even if shipping eats up a large share of that refund. Folks on the list need to be told of the problem too so they don't have the same issues. If demand for horrible parts dry up or if these parts cause customer service issues, the bad parts will be replaced with better parts, or they will be discontinued. For parts that are common to Camaro's, it's worth reading discussions on Camaros.net before buying. For instance, the problem with some brands of weather stripping is discussed in great detail over there. --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
