First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Hi everyone,
I'm finally seeing good progress on the body repairs on my bird (floors, qtr's, tail panel, trunk floor, dash panel, rails, etc.)...after over 8 years! Part of the resto saw the installation of a replacement (repro) tail panel as the old one was Swiss cheese. The dilemma: My old trunk lid seemed to be well bent & rusted so I went and got a repro from Classic (an OER brand lid). My confusion is that the tail panel is dead flat. That is, the weatherstrip channel along the top has NO ARC to it., whereas the old trunk lid and the new one both have a substantial ARC in them at the rear edge where they would close down onto the weatherstrip that sits in the top edge of the dead flat tail panel. The ARC on the repro trunk lid from the rear corners across to above the trunk latch in the centre rises about a half to three quarters of an inch. Is this correct or have I got to flatten the rear edge (not an easy job) of the trunk lid to match the tail panel? I'm assuming that the trunk lids are right and the tail panel is also right and they do not totally match up (one with an arc the other flat)?? I'd really appreciate some feedback on this from the wisdom of the group!
