I also recommend Ames. I've placed a few big orders in the past, and used a spreadsheet each time to figure out the best combination of vendors based on price, discounts and shipping. Things get a bit complicated when vendors offer different combinations of parts in kits, but it always seems to come out fairly close. If I were you I would start with Ames, then move to CI and go to the Paddock for whatever the other two don't carry. Then again, with a $5K order, you may be able to get it all from CI with a substantial discount and/or free shipping. Couldn't hurt to negotiate.

First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List

Hi All,

Been lurking for a while but have recently started what I hope to be the final "home stretch" run on finishing the restoration of my 1968 Ram Air 1 Firebird .... it's only been off the road for *18 years* and to 4 different body shops (the worst of which I later found out was
using my EXTREMELY RARE AND ORIGINAL car as a "parts" car to get a crappy
damn base model 350 Camaro out of his workshop that the owner had been hassling him
about for years).

Consequently I now need alot of parts to finish the job. Just wondering what vendor the list finds best? Year One? Paddock? Ames? Performance Years? I have to get this stuff to Australia so I was thinking of just going with one vendor for ease of transport, and they are going to get one hell of an order! Probably $5000 easy. I have finished brakes and emergency brake, have just ordered all wiring harnesses and need seats and interior pieces ... on the
motor side of things
I need head bolts, alternator + brackets, power steering pump + brackets, pushrods, rockers + nuts, chrome rockers covers, ram air pans + air cleaner, fuel lines, fan shroud ...
you get the idea.

I may yet run with some local vendors who are good friends and have done right by me in the past, but they each get their gear from different suppliers and I was just wondering from all of the experience on this list ... if there was a clear preference for a good vendor.

thanks all

geoff
