I do both, since 8 yrs...but lately its been more or less only the Forum where I respond..(maybe its because I moderate it , but....)...I scan the L list daily , but as mentioned ,so many topics are the same , so ...I figure someone else will answer the question ,since I know its come up before...

On a forum common topics are pinned and are easily searchable. On the list I do like the ability to quickly scan the topics to see if anything catches my eye. However I suppose one can just view "new posts" on a forum. I may need to migrate to the forums/board....
