Stu,
You got that right about the oils!
I used a bottle of GM "E.O.S. Assembly Lubricant" (GM Part # 12345501) as an
additive to the break-in oil to help avoid wiping the cam. That's after a
liberal coat of Red Line Assembly Lube on all cam lobes, tappets, pushrod ends,
rocker arm tips and fulcrums. Also, I'm using Rotella T on a regular basis with
no downside as far as I can tell. So far, all is well. Any GM dealer should be
able to get this lube if its not in stock.

Ed,
Your car looks great! I'm in Morganton, NC, just west of Ronnie over in Hickory.

David

There have been some real problems in the last few years with camshaft
break-ins due to the changing of motor oil formulas. Some of the better
lubricating metals such as zinc and magnesium have been removed from modern
oils because they tend to clog the pores of oxygen sensors. Using a diesel
oil such as Rotella T that still has these lubricating metals in them is
recommended for the first few thousand miles with a new flat tappet
camshaft.
