My intake for my 1967 400 motor with 670 heads came with a heat port in the
center on the passenger side just above the two center exhaust ports. My
motor came with a AFB ( carter ) Old style carburator. My choke assembly was
regulated by the two heat tubes that come up from that hole. Edlebrock
Pontiac performer Intakes have that hole blocked off for applications from 1968
on
that have either manual or electric chokes, but you can remove the plate on
the intakes to add the heat tubes. The Edlebrock Pontiac Performer intake
will fit as far back as 1965, which would explain the retangular hole. I
believe the Edlebrock performer EGR holes are close to heat tube area, but I
believe they are mounted on the neck just below where the carburator sits and
just behind the heat tube slot.
