I found one site that indicates there is a difference starting in 68. 68 - 74 would be different then pre 68 according to that. Other sources suggest the only thing different is the filter, 67 and earlier had a different filter. That same source suggests that after 69 there were some internal changes to make the TH400 have less variation across different product lines. The BU is a code for MAKE and ENGINE. I'm pretty sure the B means Buick. There is a good chance it is, or was, originally a switch pitch torque converter transmission. Does the electrical connector on the rear side of it have one or two electrical spades? SP has two.

I did a search on the web and in the forum but to no luck in decoding the numbers on my turbo 400. So can anyone point me to a site that would tell me what the numbers mean? Or decode them for me. There is an id tag on the passenger side which reads BU-65-9088 & a code number 650260 I brought it to rebuild & go behind my new motor . Has anyone had any problems installing a T400 into a `68 Firebird, apart from the crossmember.
