First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List
.........................................................................

Hey everyone,

I just returned from Scottsdale and had a blast at Barrett Jackson.
Very few first gen birds there. I counted 1 67, 1-68 and 1-69 T/A
clone. I saw more rare Yanko Camaros, Hemi Cudas and Vets then I would
see in a lifetime going to car shows around here.

I was interested in bidding on the 69 TA clone, lot 696.2 until I looked
at it. To say it was a little rough would be an understatement. The
paint job looked like a $199 special, overspray everywhere, door sills,
jams etc were original unpainted, interior, seats etc. were worn, paint
was bubbling on both doors and fenders, hood was fiberglass, panel
fitment was poor, dash showed the typical rust at the corner posts etc,
etc. The motor was a 400 but the owner couldn't verify it's origin or
date. The codes looked like a mid 70's. Ram air setup was new and well
done. I was floored when the bid went to an unbelievable $47300.00 US.
I would venture to guess that someone missed the word "reproduction"

Of course this is just my opinion and I am by no means an expert

I have decided that I'm doing a T/A clone to sell next year...lol

P.S. Don't let the numbers B/J is throwing out there fool you. There
was an estimated 35-40% buyback by owners. I talked with Joe Amato and
many other consigners and they had bought back their cars.
