Depending on the thickness of your replacement glass, you may need 3/8" or 5/16". Replacement glass came in different thicknesses, and a replacement glass may be thinner than orignal glass you removed. If you have the wrong kit for your glass, the chrome will sit too low or too high compared with the sheetmetal. The chrome does not look good nearly flush to the body. Alternatively you can use a urethane setting kit. With those, you adjust the glass on rubber supports that set the spacing with a perimeter dam. You can trial fit the chrome and adjust the glass spacing before applying the urethane. Once trial fit is okay, you apply the urethane around the perimeter. Some folks argue the urethane is better. The original installation was done with a two part sealeant made by Thiokol, so the "rope kit" is not identical to the OEM. Windshield leaks are typically from a rust failure not a problem with the sealant product. Molding clips scratch the paint, causing rust to start. The rust creeps underneath the paint, causing a paint failure. Also, there was sometimes problems with paint coverage behind the molding pins, leaving bare metal. The urethane kit requires the dual cartrdige applicator gun (automix gun). Many body shop supply stores will lend you one. I bought one on ebay for around $120. Info on the 3M urethane adhesive is on the 3M website http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3MAutomotive/Aftermarket/Products/Product-Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U5230GE3E02LECFTDQCEK3_nid=GSQHNXZ57BbeQDJBBV196Cgl Larry

I wanted the 3M Weld Ribbon but they were out of stock so I bought CI's 3/8" installation tape. I recall a thread regarding trim fitment problems due to the window sitting too low or too high, etc. Any advice on this before I set the glass?
