My original only lights up when the headlights are on. Gauges and tach all
light up, and go off with the lights.

As I understand it, the originals were on at all times and fogged up,
especially in colder, damp climates. The remedy for the latter is a vacuum
line that I believe is/was available at CI.

Is the lamp(s) in an original hood tach on at all times or just when the
driving lights/head lights are on?
I have an aftermarket hood tach. There are 3 wires, 1 to ground, 1 to
coil,
and 1 to power the lamps. The wiring directions say use a windshield wiper
lead for the lamps. I assume this means they will be on at all times (or
just
when I use the wipers if I screw it up, lol). The manual says to connect
the
lamp lead into a fuse panel marked "lamps". How does the original work, on
all
the time or just when the parking lights are active?
