To avoid doing the work I am supposed to be doing this morning I will add my
2 cents of useless information. Nearly all household bathroom and kitchen
faucets used graphite and string packing as a seal to keep the water from
leaking out the cold and hot faucet handles. Still works fine in out 1920s
fixtures. Also, the early Fords (and probably everyone else) used packing
like this for their water pumps.
