First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Just a few tidbits , since I am an architect and have now worked for a local home builder since the last recession (20 yrs), I have designed several 'special' garages, and a few for our local Classic car owners, ... 1) you don't have to build a monster, you can still get lift heights by having a 9' or 10' plate (wall ht) and slope ceiling up with rafters to 12'...(I made one here in town in a tight spot for a guy w 7 classics...he had 3 lifts, and 4 cars on the ground level, 3 on lifts when he stored them.. 2)make sure you have plenty of electrical power , many outlets 3) time to build is now , as Thomas says...dont wait around for a better deal, because I suspect many builders will go out of business if everybody waits, and then , the remaining builders can pick and choose between customers , meaning it wont be cheap...build now while they are still 'hungry' and plenty around = lesser cost for you! 4) you can get storage, mezzanine or second floor area too and maybe go with 1/2 and 1/2 , one story w 12' hts, 2 story w 8' plus 8' , even the second floor can start at a 5' wall ht and slope up to 8 or 9 feet...many areas have deed restrictions and often its not allowed to build a huge imposing garage ,so get it "humane" looking... if you want some input , just email me...

Plan before/during construction and make sure you build what you need for later into it now. If you want to pull engines without a hoist, make sure you have load-bearing beams built into your ceilings, etc. And yes, it's a GREAT time to build now... A REALLY good time. I only wish I didn't move LAST year. (Doh! Don't think about that....) :) Thomas ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Submissions to Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Unsubscribe from Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Help: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/firebird/Firebird-L.html> Classifieds: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/ubb/> Owner Pictures: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/show/>
