I doubt it would go bad - it is essentially a sealed unit...could spring a leak I suppose.

I have never heard of that...I assume a spring in there "could" go bad
or break, but never heard of it...
the shaker contains a weight , hanging from a spring from both ends ,
submerged in heavy oil (is what I have heard it explanied) and is
supposed to reduce vibration in convertibles.

Since we're talking about shakers, can anyone tell me if these things
ever
go bad?  My '67 still has the originals and I'm just wondering if they
tend
to lose their effectiveness over time (like shocks or springs).  I don't
even know how they are supposed to work.
