First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Do you remember I had problems with brake hose routing some time ago?
I installed a Classic Performance Brakes front disc brake kit complete with master cylinder, booster and stainless steel lines purchased from Matt's Bowties. All the parts look great and the brakes work fine but... The car didn't pass inspection due to brake hoses rubbing the frame. The hoses also had an S-shape with a really hard bend at the calipers. There are two issues with the kit that mess up the routing: Number one is their bad decision to use the existing drum brake bracket. I managed to modify and relocate the bracket to sit on top of the frame as the disc brake cars had in '69. This forced me to shorten and re-flare the brake lines. If you don't have a flare tool that can handle stainless steel, mark the lines and take them to a shop. The second problem is the direction of the hoses where they exit (or actually enter) the calipers. It appears they are using second generation F-body calipers. This directs the hose upwards instead of rearwards giving the hose a hard bend. I solved this with my dremel with a grinding stone tool. A one minute job and the caliper had a nice notch to guide the hose in the right direction. Hopes this helps somebody. To night I will bleed the brakes and then I'm ready to make a new try at the inspection. /Niklas ยด68 400 HT Gothenburg, Sweden ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Submissions to Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Unsubscribe from Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Help: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/firebird/Firebird-L.html> Classifieds: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/ubb/> Owner Pictures: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/show/>
