If you get a ton of gibberish when someone posts a binary file, it's because of the way it's encoded and not properly decoded by your email client. Email wasn't initially intended to transmit anything but plain text, so the way they adapted for binary files is to encode the binary into text, and then decode at the client (or receiving server).
