Another thing...

Don't crank down the rocker until after you prime the motor. The lifters
need to fill. Remember, they are what adjust you lash for you. If you
crank them down, the 50 psi you pump makes will never overcome the 150
lbs of spring pressure...

Dan,

Unless the collar of the lifter is at the level of the oil hole in the
block, the lifter will not flow oil to the rocker. Try to prime at TDC
then rotate the crank 180 then do it again. Also, make sure you go
counter clockwise with the drill on the pump...

Another thing to think of... the distributor helps pressurize the lifter
galleys. If you prime without it, you will not produce enough pressure
to overcome the lifters.

Also, it is not totally unheard of to have stuck lifters that are new.
Pontiac lifters are not real fast movers so if they sit on the shelf
they may get stagnant. My buddy had a similar problem with his ford. But
we all know how awful anything ford makes is...

I have had to dissemble lifters before and put them back together...

Hope this helps

Joe the all knowing

Guys need some advice. A good friend of mine just had his 400 rebuilt
at a
excellent shop here that has always done great work but they have a
problem.
The top end is not oiling. You can take the lifters out of the bores and
prime it with a priming tool and it is pouring in but you put the
lifters in
and nothing is going up the push rods at all. I am saying it is the
wrong
lifters but what do you guys think . Any ideas please let me know
!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Daniel Ray
