First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... That's interesting, because the link was from a current auction for a '69 Trans Am. I seem to remember that there were several listed services under the auction for my car last October. There must be other inspection services that will inspect older cars (probably "appraisal services" that charge more).

Unless I missed something, the inspection and the VIN search are only available to cars 1980 or 1981 or newer. Dan Subject: RE: [FGF] Looking for a new Bird From: "Jim Weil" <[email protected]> Date: Fri, 18 Sep 2009 21:25:50 -0700 Dan, E-bay posts a link on the auction site to an independent inspection service under the tab "Order an independent inspection". The link is: http://pages.ebay.com/ebaymotors/services/inspection/inspection.html Jim -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Dan Dominick Sent: Friday, September 18, 2009 6:59 PM To: First Generation Firebird-L Subject: RE: [FGF] Looking for a new Bird First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ........................................................................ . Thanks for the information, Jim. Who does the inspection? Dan 68 Sprint Convertible Subject: RE: [FGF] Looking for a new Bird From: "Jim Weil" <[email protected]> Date: Fri, 18 Sep 2009 12:11:10 -0700 On an eBay purchase, my advice is to pay for an inspection before you bid, if you can't personally inspect the car. I found out the hard way that the PayPal protection doesn't apply if you don't have it inspected. Ask the seller how recent the photos are. If they're several months old you should ask for new pics. If they refuse, move on. My car had some front end damage that didn't show up on the posted photos (it's a '69; the front end is a nightmare to repair). It's easy to get a shipping quote before you bid, which for my 'bird was close to $2000, so factor that into your offer. And make sure the buyer states that he has clear title to the car. Many of the older cars have had their registration lapse, and depending on the states involved (yours and theirs), it may be a hassle to re-register. Good luck.
