First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Rick, I put a Doug Nash (Richmond) 5 Speed in my car. The TremecTKO 500 or TKO 600 5 speed is a MUCH easier transmission to put in and tends to shift a bit better. However I like my Doug Nash more than the Tremec because of the gearing. My car originally came with a 2.56 rear which I then added a 2.56 posi carrier (yep they were made). This was before I was able to do much in the way of performance(I was 14).
I've got that money invested in the 2.56 though ideally a 3.08 gear would be better. The gears in the Richmond are much better spaced than those of the Tremec. Here is what David Pozzi has to say about the Doug nash/Richmond 5 speed: http://www.pozziracing.com/richmond_transmission_swap.htm That includes a step by step swap guide if you already have a manual transmission. You can buy bolt in packages for the Tremec transmissions but the Richmond will always require fabrication to make it fit and look stock. That all being said, I LOVE my Richmond!
