I have a '68 Firebird convertible that PHS shows came with a deluxe steering wheel. It was an option, as was the deluxe interior, which the car also has. Get a new car today and you get a lot of package options like interiors, etc., but when you ordered a Firebird back in the day, you really had to go down the lengthy option list and check all the boxes for the stuff you wanted, which was also another reason why a car could end up costing significantly more than the base price. I couldn't figure out why my convertible had the deluxe steering wheel and the deluxe interior but had the standard plastic-buckle seat belts. Turns out that's the way the car was ordered because the deluxe seat belts are another option. I thought maybe convertibles didn't get the metal deluxe buckles because they'd get too hot when the car was left out in the sun with the top down!
