Run the steering from lock to lock a few times with the engine idling. Let the car set overnight for the air to separate out of the fluid. Once the fluid becomes mixed like a milkshake with air, it takes some time for the air to separate back out. The pump will quiet down when the fluid releases the trapped air. The trapped air isn't non-compressible like power steering fluid, so the system will be noisy while there is trapped air in the fluid. It will be okay when the trapped air escapes.

Hello everyone and happy new year, I have just gotten my firebird up and running and I am having trouble with the power steering. During the rebuild I decided against replacing the steering box because it was functioning properly prior to the restoration process. However now the car has a grinding sound when it is assisting when turning the wheel side to side. I have replaced the pump and pressure lines and put in royal purple steering fluid to no avail. I have attempted to "bleed" the system by turning the wheel back and forth but still is foaming in the reservoir. Any suggestions at this point would be helpfull. Thanks in advance.
