I haven't played with it either so take this with a grain of salt. >From what I've seen, yes it works with datasets and any object that implements IEnumerable but also has support for writing SQL queries that get executed on the server.
You should take a look at the interview to Anders Hejlsberg posted on Channel 9. http://channel9.msdn.com/showpost.aspx?postid=114680 In one example he gives he uses the same query that he was using with a collection of Customers to query the SQL Server 2005 Northwind database. He attaches a DB logger that prints the SQL query that get's sent to the server. It's totaly cool.
