I seemed to have tracked the error down. The security2.fdb installed by 11 Nov 2005 Official Windows Setup and Installer For Classic and SuperServer 2.0 Beta 1 (.exe) from the Firebird file repositories seems to be different from the security2.fdb in SuperServer and Classic for Windows 2.0 Beta 1 (.zip) (5.0mb). The error goes away if I replace the security database with the one from the ZIP package (the file sizes are slightly different too).
