I have the same problem. At home I installed the beta4 provider and it
works.
At work i tryied to install and when I try to add a new connection to
the server explorer I always get an error becouse of the Firebird .Net
provider and don't get the Add Connection dialog.
The error is the following:
'An unexpected error occured in the .NET Framework Data Provider for
Firebird. Please contact the provider vendor to resolve this problem.'
I double checked the registry values, I also tryed to insert the one
from my home machine, checked the machine.config but no success.
On my work machine I have the following diff:
- i have VS 2003 installed here
- i installed the february Windows SDK, WinFx and the Orcas CTP (i tryed
to deinstall this but got the same error). I installed all those at home
PC and the Firebird .Net provider still works.
- home PC is AMD Barton 2500 this one is AMD64 Athlon
- both PC's run on XP with the latest security updates.
I also tryed the .reg file posted from Robert Simpson for the
packageless install, then at least i'm getting the 'New Connection'
dialog but still can't create Firebird connection as after the Firebird
dialog when i hit the 'Ok' button i get the following error:
'Failure has occured while loading a type'

work, too. The "publisher" of VS copy the DLLs, but I get error.
Why two PCs with similar configurations don't return the same result?
Is there a patch = or a better step-by-step guide to install this provider?
I follow all ste= ps that a get with the download and some sites, but
this is not working.
Please: I am despaired !!!
