I have used transaction from the first version of my method:
trans = conn.BeginTransaction();
FbCommand cmd = new FbCommand(query, conn, trans);
reader = cmd.ExecuteReader();
// ...
trans.Commit();
this is as slow as I mentioned

Regarding a datatable solution, can you send me a piece of your working
source code?
