Greetings one and all,

I have been trying for days to get the Firebird provider working and I'm no
closer now than when I started and I really would appreciate any help I could
get. I really need to get it working. I have got an application to write in C#
and I have never used it before. I have been programming in Visual Basic & C++
so I have a learning curve to overcome. I also want to use the Firebird
database.

Here's what I have been doing to try to make this thing work.

First, I just purchase a new Intel 2.3G 64 machine because I needed the extra
power. The software installed is a brand new install without any toys added.

OK. starting with a brand new install. Order of installs:
MS W2k (sp4)
Visual Studio 2005 w/VS2005 SDK & MS Net2.0 Framework SDK
MS Office 2000 Excel, Access, Word (no updates)
Firebird 2.0 - Embedded Server - (I have a Super Server running on another
machine)
FirebirdClient.Net-2.0.1
DDEXProvider-2.0.1
FlameRobin-0.7.6

Configuration efforts:
I ran the gac to include the Datatools.dll
Exported the gac contents to get the TokenKey
Modified the machine.config to include the Firebird entries
  Installed contents of FirebirdDDEXProvider32.reg

Results:
When trying to add a new connection I get the following error.
An unexpected error occurred in the .NET Framework Data Provider for Firebird.
Please contact the provider...

Trouble shooting:
I then begin searching the net for a resolution to the problem. One suggestion
was to use the packageless version of the FirebirdDDEXProvider registry tool.
Using the contents of the FirebirdDDEXProvider***. reg scripts, I removed all
the registry entries and tried the PackageLess version. This version actually
pops the add connection dialog but when you try to modify any portion of it, it
immediately bails.

I also tried numerous other suggestions found on the web even though they were
for earlier versions of the same packages. With similar results depending of
the flavor of FirebirdDDEX*.reg I was using.

Current state:
I am really beginning to wonder if the provider even works with the
Machine/Software combination listed above. If anyone has been able to get it
working with a configuration similar to mine I would appreciate it very much if
you would share your secret. If you have any meaningful suggestions I might try
next they would be appreciated as well.

TIA
