If the OP is using Fb 2.1 then strlen() is an internal function on that server *unless* the database is still as it was under a lower server - which is no doubt the reason why Jiri asked the OP to provide information about the versions of things he is using. Databases need to be upgraded to use new features, sure enough -- but, where an old database has a SP that was compiled under an older server with a UDF function call to a now-internalised function, there will be conflict. In short, the SP would need to undergo an ALTER PROCEDURE with the entire code of the original procedure, to recompile.
