How about: c. Modify Firebird source code, before it tries to create the database file, check for directory existence, and then create it. It seems exactly what you need and any decent C/C++ programmer should be able to implement this functionality quickly. ;) One question though. "firebird" user usually has no privileges on *any* directory in the filesystem by default. How would it be able to create the sub-directory then?
