It sounds as though there is some problem with availability of character sets on your machine, that perhaps the installer script cannot handle. I suggest that you re-post your question into the firebird-devel list, where the people who make the Windows builds will see it and advise you what to do. When you do so, please include information about the language settings on your XP box. ./heLen
