I know. I just find it rather stupid. I wouldn't want FB to go against the standard. I'd like the standard to change. But I'm pretty sure it will never happen for legacy reasons. In essence, when varchar was introduced, they chose to extend the trailing space behavior to that new type, probably thinking it would make things easier for folks wont to it from the char type. In doing so they tried to solve a temporary problem by introducing a permanent one. Nice one...
