Did you actually create a generator? Assuming you're using isql from the /bin/directory of your Firebird installation: CREATE GENERATOR MYGEN; COMMIT; SELECT GEN_ID (MYGEN,1) FROM RDB$DATABASE as MyNumber; -- repeat this a few times.
