Actually, I believe it makes it more difficult, maybe difficult isn't the
right word but it makes it more work.

In the case of MySQL the initial work was done by someone at MySQL.

In the case of PostgreSQL the initial was done by a member of the
PostgreSQL community.

There is an old saying:
If it needs doing someone will do it, if no one does it it didn't need
doing.
