I've not seen this happen. You could try the tracing version, 1.2X, from getfirebug.com and set FBTrace > Errors to see if any thing comes out when you hit the problem. Actually you should try 1.3X.
In general don't bother reinstalling firefox/firebug. The only case where this helps is if you over-wrote some of the install files. Firefox stores all of its config info in a directory called a 'profile'. The profile is not deleted or changed by un- or re-install.
