thanks for detailed steps to reproduce!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to reproduce the problem. I have tried a
few differen Firefox versions and locales (even Hebrew locale, man
it's not easy to use for an European! :) and new profiles. The gmail
gadget is still properly visible for me.

Do you see the problem even with en-US Firefox?


Here is what you could do yet, to try to track down the problem

1) Download Firebug with tracing enabled
http://getfirebug.com/releases/firebug/1.3X/

2) When installed, open tracing console e.g: Firefox->Tools->Firebug-
>Open Firebug Tracing

3) Check ERRORS options in the Tracing window, repeat all your actions
and see if there are any suspicious errors.
