Just chiming in to say that I saw exactly the same problem with Firebug 1.3 as 'The Cleaner' did so I reverted back to Firebug 1.2.1. I was meaning to post something about this problem but just saw this thread. I'm forced to stay with Firefox 2 right now since our project gets lots of errors with Firefox 3 and we still need to sort that out, which might not happen for a few months. I'm glad Firebug 1.2.1 is still available for use with FF 2.
