I have a similar issue, at least regarding online editing..... I can edit HTML in the lower left window of firebug, and it 'takes', but editing DOM etc. in the lower right window disappears as soon as I hit 'enter'. Gives every appearance of working, only it ignores my changes completely. So I can't change anything but HTML online. Did the about:config thing and nothing shows up in ErrorConsole.
Tried this on four different Windows XP box, all the same issue, tried firebug 1.3.2, 1.3.3, 1.4, all same issue. My Web Design professor (and his Mac) have no problems editing DOM in firebug.
