Please try firebug 1.4X.0b2 from http://getfirebug.com/releases/firebug/1.4X
Reinstalling does not clear the configuration, the most common cause of odd problems. A new Firefox profile does create a new configuration, see http://groups.google.com/group/firebug/web/faq-about-firebug.
