Hi Rebecca, We had an exchange on Twitter yesterday, but for the sake of others who may be confused, thought I'd reply here as well.
Initial DNS lookup for a site under Net panel analysis returns 0. Connections are pooled and I suspect that's the reason most of them return 0 for connection times. Content loaded from sites not on the originating domain have small DNS lookups attached to them (here, I see 5-15ms times for DNS lookups). I do also see occasional connection times of varying ranges, usually to these off-site locations. To see it in action, do a google search and look at the results from the Net panel. A few elements, like the favicon and some other bits are coming from different domains. We hope to improve the accuracy of the results in the Net panel with the next release of Firefox. We have a bug on file and some patches in hand that should start appearing in 3.next nightlies Real Soon Now. Thanks for the post!
