Well something else is going on.
If you install the tracing version in a new firefox profile (see
http://groups.google.com/group/firebug/web/faq-about-firebug) then we
can sort it:
the new profile may just fix it, else
the tracing with option ACTIVATION will show firebug activity
Other things you can try is to disable the panels in Firebug and try
to see if there is any difference.
