That is the aim of the extension system. To be able to add your custom options to firebug. Right now adding more things to the UI is a problem itself, the UI is a lot crowded and we're trying to come to a solution for it. I encourage you to see the tutorials on extending firebug on this site: http://www.softwareishard.com/blog/firebug-tutorial/extending-firebug-hello-world-part-i/ And also having a look to an experiment/extension by one of the developers called "Deadbug" (it was made for the only purpose of changing the statusbar icon for disabled firebug into a dead bug :) ).
