@djn: I think i've got your point, although i think that you would meet your requirements by setting up a local development environment to work with before uploading to your server.
About saving files on demand: Once Firebug is loaded, the css style rules and definitions lose their formatting, that's why i was using css tidy on the server side component to restore document format. It would not be too difficult to handle this formatting with javascript, i'll look into it.
