I don't test on Ubuntu at all. In the past I did test on Ubuntu, but I
never found any issues that differ from WinXP, so I stopped. In this
case, the out come would not be different, since the crash only occurs
on 64 bit.

Specifically I mean that Firefox would not hold up their release to
incorporate a fix for 64 bit builds. You read the Firefox team leads
comment yourself:

Yes, here you are absolutely correct. I do not support Firebug on 64
bit linux Firefox builds. My own reasons include not owning a 64 bit
machine. I certainly welcome input from Firebug users on 64 bit
machines, including the information that Firebug 1.5 still crashes
them.

I wish our mornings had not been disrupted. I hope you have enough
information about this issue now.
