I have on my system: 1.6/../branch.properties = RELEASE=.0a4, VERSION=1.6X firebug menu item is: about ... 1.6X.0a4. The firebug about window says: versie 1.5X.0b9. Extensions in addons says: Firebug 1.5X.0b9. 1.5/../branch.properties = RELEASE=.0, VERSION=1.5X 1.5/install.rdf: <em:version>1.5X.0b9</em:version> 1.6/install.rdf: <em:version>1.6X.0a4</em:version> During startup firefox only reads from my 1.6 branch. Never from 1.5 anymore, so I guess 1.5X.0b9 is once taken from install.rdf and is now cached in firefox.
