I am not seeing this problem. Here is what I tried:
1) Load www.google.com
2) Select/enable the Console panel
3) Execute: console.log("Some rather long text that I would like to
see in my Firebug log"); on the command line.
I can see entire text (it's not cropped). I haven't seen the problem
even with 1.5.0, but you can try to update to 1.5.3
