A new firefox profile is a fresh empty configuration.

In a few minutes you can set up a new profile. Unfortunately the
FIrefox tools for this are hard to use.

Use the Profile Manager:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
Switch back to your old profile.
Use Firefox > Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import and Backup >
Export HTML
Select a file you can find again.
Exit Firefox

Switch to your new profile
Use Firefox > Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import and Backup >
Import HTML
Select that file above.

Now install Firebug and any other addons you are sure about.

Any options you set will be gone (mostly that is a good thing), you
will find fewer mysteries.
