I was debugging some code which contained in an included file if (var ref = document.getElementById(some_id)) ...
(Single '=' is intended. I must never have tried this use of var in JS before but apparently it is illegal syntax). The include failed but Firebug did not report anything until something tried to reference the constructor in the file and simply said it was not a constructor. Error Console did not report anything either.
