Neither Firebug, nor Firefox, nor any other browser has or _can_ have any knowledge of this. The browser makes an HTTP request and it is up to the server whether it reads a file, consults a database, runs a program or any other things you can think of to generate the data it will send in response to that request. Having said that, it is likely that your HTML page does specify a URL for the css file (the alternative is that the CSS is embedded directly into your HTML file) and the NET tab will show you what CSS 'file' it requested.
