Check to see how big the window is and if it is below a certain size, don't open the firebug panel in that window! it covers the entire pop-up window without being able to see the close button. This pisses me off about 100 times a day. I am working with Commonspot CMS and there are a lot of pop ups, namely when uploading new versions of my css and js files.
