Until there is, use the Organize Status Bar extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/organize-status-bar/ It will let you rearrange the order of the status bar icons, or hide them entirely. The latter is probably what you want. The 0.64 version on Mozilla Addons says it's not compatible with FF 4. There's an 0.65 version on the developer's site that is.
